Culture and tradition: "Water day"

Imagine yourself walking along the street in one of the modern capital cities in summer heat, Suddenly a group of teenagers come up to you running and pour pails of water over you.
It's a "water day" or "Vardavar".

Vardavar  is a festival in Armenia where people of social groups drench each other with water. The ancient festival is traditionally associated with the goddess Astghik, who was the goddess of water, beauty and love. The festivities associated with this religious observance of Astghik were named “Vartavar” because Armenians offered her roses as a celebration (vart means "rose"), this is why it was celebrated in the harvest time. Vardavar is celebrated 98 days after Easter.
